Exciting News!

Yes, yes, y'all! I have some really great news to share with you!

Honestly, it was SO hard to keep my mouth shut about this, haha. But here it is...

I'm going to be co-blogging at YA Midnight Reads! 

This is so awesome! I've known Melanie for a while now and I can safely say that she's one of the awesomest people out there. I've loved her blog ever since I discovered it and I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of that blog now!

This does leave us a question, though, and that is what will happen to The Book Shimmy?
To be honest - I don't know. I actually wanted to co-blog so I would have more time on my hands, not less. But I also think I have too many posts to post them all on YA Midnight Reads. So basically, The Book Shimmy will still be there. I'll still post reviews and TTTs and discussion posts. The only difference is that I'm not going to force myself to post every day or every two days or something. I'll post whenever I feel like it, so there could be gaps of a week or even more between posts. I'll post regularly on YA Midnight Reads, so at least you can find me there, haha. The motto still is school before blog though, and I hear this year is going to be particularly busy. So no posts for a few days probably means that I have a test that week or some big project or something. But don't worry - I'll be back!

Hey everyone!

A tiny little post from me to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking! My hiatus has officially ended, but I might stretch it out a little longer since my birthday is almost upon us! It's on January 5th, so I might add those five days to my hiatus. I promise I'll be back on January 6th though!

There's just one more thing I want to say to you all:

It was in 2013 that I discovered blogging and all the awesome people in the blogosphere and it has been nothing short of amazing. I love discussing books with you all, and everyone is always there for one another. Although there is some drama from time to time, the book blogging community is completely awesome and I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who take the time to read my blog or even comment on it, to all of you who fangirl with me and to all of you who have interacted with me in one way or another. I hope 2014 will be filled with books and other awesome things for all of us!!

End of Year Hiatus

End of Year Hiatus... And a Couple of Lists

Hey guys! It's been a wonderful year and I can't believe 2013 is almost over. I mean, WHERE DID THIS YEAR GO? Granted, I feel like that every year. But still.

2013 has brought some wonderful things into my life (like blogging!) and I think I'll leave it at that. Which is why I'm announcing this hiatus. Lately I've been in a bit of a reviewing slump - or maybe you should call it a blogging slump. So I'm going to stop posting for the rest of the year (that sounds scary even when you know 2014 is only 3/4 days away.). I'll be back next year, though, and better than ever!

First of all I want to wish you guys a HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope 2014 will be YOUR year, whoever you are. May all kinds of good things happen to you!

• My Oh... So you read Young Adult post! People always seem to think that YA can't be literature and is just for kids, but that's not true at all. I can get very passionate about this and I'm so glad I wrote this post because I needed to get it off my chest.

I Did Something And It's So Freeing

Recently, Jamie (the Perpetual Page-Turner) wrote this post on the rise of co-bloggers. Now, my post won't have anything to do with co-bloggers, but Jamie's post inspired me.

In her post, she said this:

 I read this and I realized that it's true. In the past months of blogging, I have constantly challenged myself to post every day. I have consistently failed to. And every day I didn't have a post felt like a failure. Like I shouldn't be a blogger. Like I didn't read fast ebough or wasn't creative enough to come up with something or wasn't smart enough to plan ahead and make sure I had a post every day. I could be faster, stronger, better and I'd failed at it. At first, I thought it was just me challenging myself. And then I realized that I wasn't the one pressuring me. It was a general thing that affected almost every blog out there. A beast that nobody would talk about, but they would surrender to it. 

I discovered my personal beast.

It was such a tiny little thing. One little button on my side bar. My blog archive. It keeps track of every post I put out there. And it keeps counting the number of posts you churn out every month. And it's so easy to see. Every time I 'missed' a day, it would show. If it was the 16th, and there were only 14 posts to be seen, I felt like I'd failed. And my failure was there for the world to see. Each and every one of my visitors could see my archive and know that I hadn't been able to post every day like I felt I should. They could all see it and think that maybe I wasn't commited enough to blogging. 

When I discovered this, I did what I had to do to prevent me from going crazy. I deleted the widget.

And it feels so incredibly good. No way to track my number of failures anymore! In fact, they weren't failures anymore. They were just days on which I hadn't posted because maybe I was busy or had nothing to say. Perfectly normal reasons as to why I don't post every day. I felt freed. For more than a week, I didn't blog. I hardly thought about my blog, and if you know me, you know how incredible that is. This off-week also happened to be my test week. In abandoning all things bloggy in that week, I had more time to concentrate and focus on my tests. In  fact, school's still hard on me. I have hardly had any time to read, let alone blog. Because I deleted the Archive widget, I didn't feel guilty about that anymore.

It's bliss. If anyone feels like the pressure is too much and they can't keep up, I definitely recommend doing this. And if it doesn't help you personally, try finding out what your beast it and beat it! It has helped me to relax and concentrate, and I feel calmer in general. I just want to say something:

It's okay not to post every day. If you do not post once a day, it does not make you a bad blogger. If you post thrice a day, that's amazing. If you post thrice a month, it's amazing. Do whatever works best for you. People will still love you if you take a day, a week, or even a month off. It's okay.

Announcements!

Hey there, everyone!

You've probably noticed that I haven't been very active lately in the blogging commuity. The reason? School. Right now it's test week (although I'm never sure if that's the correct English term for it... They're not exams, but still important. For a week I have tests? quizzes? on all my subjects, and it's pretty tiring. I'm literally learning all day. Sigh.). All my energy gets sucked into that, so I'm not very good at commenting back right now! I'll try to catch up for a bit tomorrow. Anyway, I do want to thank everyone. Thanks for still visiting even when I'm being anti-social <3 It means a lot to me! My test week isn't over until next Thursday, so... facing a busy week!

And then my second announcement: soon I'll be doing my very first chapter-by-chapter review on the blog! The book I'll be reviewing is Of Poseidon by Anna Banks. I'll post whenever I can with all the things I have to do, but I do think you can expect a review of the first two chapters tomorrow!

I was auto-approved for HarperCollins on Edelweiss! You guys, I couldn't believe it when I saw it at first. I'm not kidding, I seriously thought Harper just had a lot of "Read Now" books on Edelweiss. I had to ask Melanie (YA Midnight Reads) if Into the Still Blue was up for request or download...

Naturally, when I found out that I was auto-approved, I freaked out. Did a little dance. And then I dowloaded ALL the books... Oops. Some books I got:

Currently reading:

I'm trying to read all the ARCs I got as soon as I can, so that I can submit my feedback, but that also means I'm reviewing for February 2014 (mostly) and I have no back-up reviews (yet). So I'm going to have to do a bit of juggling with reviews and posts, but I'll manage :P Maybe I'll make next month Discussion December or something!

Also a question: how do you convert a PDF file, dowloaded from Edelweiss, into an EPUB? Harlequin approved me for a couple of books (Pawn, The Iron Traitor, Heartbeat) but they're in PDF format, so my e-reader is being REALLY annoying.

Help me put together my Christmas wishlist! I already got a couple of recommendations, but I'm not sure what to ask for so far. Books that are on the list for certain:

• Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)
• Premeditated

Hiatus

 Hey everyone!

For some reason my holiday is even busier than my last school weeks! You must have noticed that I haven't been posting much lately (or at all, really). I'm really sorry about that, so I'm having a little blog-vacation. I don't know when I'll be back, but I still have some things to review so you can expect to be seeing those sometime. I don't really want to leave (or take a rest, really) because in this short time I've been blogging I've starter to really love it, but the blog and you deserve more time than I have now.

Thoughts:

I'm very glad I'm approved to read this book because that synopsis is very interesting! I'd never heard of Munchausen Syndrome, but this sounds fascinating. I'm very curious to see how this is going to work out.

I can see your look: Go back to work, you! Yes sir, yes ma'am. Unfortunately, I have to read some (very un-interesting) books for school, and the last weeks of the schoolyear are impossibly busy! Apparently all teachers think that we have nothing to do at the end of the year.. Well, you're wrong. And many thanks for giving me tons of homework. (Yes, that was sarcastic.)

I love that cover! I'm not usually a fan of title-repeating, but I think it works here. And I love that tagline. Really, the cover and tagline alone were enough for me to request it, but the synopsis sounds interesting too! Also a big thank you to NetGalley and Random House for providing me an ARC.

Outcast by Adrienne Kress

New Book:

That cover is freaking great. I love it. 

I've wanted to read this book for so long! I saw the sequel, Once We Were, which now has a cover, and decided to buy What's Left Of Me.

Title Reveal!

Yes, the day has finally come! The third book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor has a name! It's no secret I absolutely love that series, so I was very excited. And it is..

*drum roll*

Dreams of Gods and Monsters!

Thoughts:

I'm not sure about this title. I mean, I really like it, don't get me wrong. But maybe it's just a little disappointing for me after the awesome title of Days of Blood and Starlight. I don't know.

Oh wait! I know! My OCD self has figured it out!

The first title was Daughter of Smoke and Bone aka DoSaB. The second Days of Blood and Starlight, aka DoBaS.

And now we get DoGaM. That doesn't fit in. 

So, after all, the title is good. More than good. I just have to surpress my OCD side and then I can sit and admire Laini Taylor's work. Now that I've figured out what is "wrong" with it, I can only say fuck that. It's a gorgeous title, an awesome title, and gimme the book already!
